Women defenders of the environment
in Colombia and Mexico
In the last two decades, a growing number of women, in Colombia and Mexico, have dedicated their lives to defending human, land and environmental rights, at a time when there are deep discussions about the health of the earth, globally.
For these women, social leaders, environmental activists and advocates, their work has come at a high price, exposing themselves and their families to threats, attacks and, in some cases, assassinations. As a consequence, there is a degradation of the human rights situation in Colombia and Mexico. These two countries face a humanitarian crisis with attacks against social leaders who seek to preserve human dignity and fight for the conservation of the environment. Editorial Coordinator
